Eugene "Gene" Corgill

August 5, 1933 — November 19, 2013

Eugene "Gene" Corgill of Midland, went home to be with his Lord on November 19, 2013 after a brief illness. Gene, as he was affectionately known, was born on August 5, 1933 in Lakeview, TX to William and Norma Lee Corgill. He joined the U.S. Navy in September, 1952. He served for 4 years at the end of the Korean Conflict. He always loved to tell and retell about all the places he got to see while overseas and stories about a lot of his adventures and some of his misadventures. He was discharged in September, 1956. When he returned home to Turkey, Texas, little did he know that there was someone only ten miles away that was going to help him write the rest of his life story. That someone was Sharon Woods. They were married on September 7, 1957. They were blessed with the first of two children on June 12, 1958, Rodney Gene Corgill, and shortly after on November 10, 1959, the second son, Roy Dean Corgill. Gene worked for Schlumberger for 18 years and left the company in July, 1978. After leaving Schlumberger, he started his own construction company called Bee Gee Construction. After approximately 20 years, he semi-retired and he and Sharon found "Our Little Piece of Heaven" 135 miles south of Midland on the Pecos River. The whole family has enjoyed 17 years of hunting, fishing, and getting to spend a lot of quality time with each other. He and his wife were members of the West Side Church of Christ and loved by all his brothers and sisters in Christ. All of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were special and loved beyond measure, but his first great-granddaughter was the delight of his life. Gene is preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his sons Rodney and wife Cindy Corgill, and Roy Corgill both of Midland; Grandchildren Dusty Corgill and wife Amber, Chad Corgill, Chippy and wife Shilyen Corgill, and William Preston Corgill all of Midland; Five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; Two brothers, Ray Corgill of Tulsa, OK and Jerry Corgill of Levelland, TX; Numerous nieces, nephews, and a few "Old Friends". The family will formally accept friends on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 2-4 PM at West Side Church of Christ in Midland. Services will be held Monday November 25, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the West Side Church of Christ in Midland. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for all the staff at Midland Memorial Hospital and to Doctors' Bartha, McKenna, and Miller. Also a very special thanks to Jackie Warren. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association , American Lung Association , and the West Side Church of Christ in Midland. Services are under the direction of Andrews-Corgill Funeral Home, 201 NE 1st Street, Andrews, TX 79714.
